"Baseball is BACK!"

Isotopes Park is home to the Albuquerque Isotopes.

They are now the Triple-A Affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodges.

The 'Topes brought baseball back to Albuquerque in 2003 after the Albuquerque Dukes organizations left in 2001 becoming the Portland Beavers. A concerted effort began to find a baseball team back to Albuquerque.

During the hunt for a team, the search by Albuquerque for a baseball team was written into the story line of an episode of the prime time cartoon TV series The Simpsons. In the episode, Albuquerque was trying to take the Springfield Isotopes from Homer Simpson's hometown of Springfield.

When the Calgary Cannons relocated to Albuquerque, many Dukes fans wanted a return to the historic name, but many wanted them to be called the Isotopes. A poll was taken by the Albuquerque Tribune newspaper for the for most popular names, the Dukes, Isotopes, Atoms and Road Runners. Isotopes won with 67% of the votes.

Opened in 2003, Isotopes Park is considered one of the finest facilities in baseball, incorporating state-of-the-art amenities with traditional charm and intimacy. In its six years of existence, Isotopes Park has become a popular destination for baseball fans throughout the southwest, attracting 3,473,913 people since opening its gates.

The Park has the popular "open concourse" design of many new baseball stadiums, letting fans watch the game while visiting the food concessions and merchandise store.

In addition to the Isotopes, the ballpark serves as the home of the University of New Mexico Lobos, for whom it is annually recognized as one of the best facilities in college sports.

With a capacity of 13,279, Isotopes Park, affectionately called "The Lab," features 11,124 seats, all of which come complete with chairbacks and cup holders.

Beyond the right field fence is the Creamland Berm, a popular place for families to stretch out on a blanket and enjoy some baseball on a starry southwestern night. Nestled behind the bullpens in left is the Blake's Lotaburger Picnic Pavilion, which can accomodate up to 425 people in four tiered seating areas.

The kids are taken care of at Isotopes Park as well, with the Ambercare Ozone beyond the batter's eye in center, an ideal spot to celebrate birthdays, and the Fun Zone behind the berm in right featuring games and carnival rides for "kids" of all ages.

Isotopes Park stands in the exact same spot as where historic Albuquerque Sports Stadium stood from 1972 until it was almost completely razed in 2002. Some remnants from the old ballpark can still be found at The Lab, including the foundation of the main seating bowl, a pair of concrete retaining walls near each dugout, and of course, the trademark baseball that stands sentry on the corner of the University and Avenida Cesar Chavez.
